Surface preparation
Surface preparation is a critical step in ensuring the performance and durability of composite repairs in the Oil & Gas industry. The success of any composite application, whether for structural reinforcement, corrosion protection, or leak sealing, depends heavily on the quality of the surface to which it is applied. Contaminants such as oil, rust, moisture, or old coatings can severely compromise adhesion, leading to premature failure of the repair.
Proper surface preparation, including cleaning, roughening, and profiling, creates the mechanical bonding required for the composite material to adhere effectively and perform under harsh operational conditions. Especially in environments exposed to high pressures, chemicals, and temperature fluctuations, surface preparation is not just a preliminary step, it is a decisive factor in the overall reliability and lifespan of the repair.
